" Taking It Easy In The Big Easy"

Some of you might recall that we received a gift certificate @ Christmas for a stay in this New Orleans Bed & Breakfast..............

Friday was Eric's 65 th B'Day so we went down to New Orleans on Thursday to celebrate........


Located on Pyrtania Street in the Historic Garden District the mansion was built in 1858

We enjoyed our morning coffee on the lovely front porch.......

The Chandeliers and Crown Molding are simply gorgeous..............

The furniture in this mansion is just exquisite.............notice the Lion Heads on the chair arms

I was amazed by the crown molding throughout this place.............

We had booked this room which is called The Moulin Rouge Suite and is on the 2nd floor...

However.........after seeing the staircase to the second floor which I kid you not looked like it went strait up 30 feet, we opted for a 1st floor room.......

We had already decided these front steps were more than enough climbing for us..........

We DO NOT do stairs as well as we once did.........HA!

So we stayed in the 1st floor Napoleon Room.............

I love this armoire.......... Now this B&B is reported to be haunted, I'm not sure just what has been seen or heard, but Eric thinks he heard a ghost! He says that in the wee hours of Friday morning he was awakened by heavy footsteps walking back and forth overhead. He said a few minutes later the footsteps came down the entry hall by our room heading for the front door.

They did not go out the door nor return back down the hall past our room to the stairs at the back of the hall. I slept through it! :)

On Thursday evening we had some of the best food we've ever eaten @ this very famous eatery on S. Carrollton in Uptown...........

They are well known for their amazing Po Boys..........

This a Shrimp and Fried Green Tomato Po Boy.....

Eric had a 12 inch Po Boy( half shrimp/half oyster) and I had the dinner special which was grilled Mahi Mahi on a bed of real mashed potatoes, topped with a creole crab sauce and a bouquet of grilled Asparagus.......

It was "oh my God" wonderful!

You can't visit New Orleans without a stop @ the Cafe DuMonde in the French Quarter....

This is a fantastic street entertainer............

Coffee and beignets for breakfast...........

Our daughter-in-law met us there and gave Eric an autographed copy of New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees new book "Coming Back Stronger". He has nearly finished it and says it is awesome!!

We then shopped at the French Market and took a stroll thru the French Quarter.........

We had the famous Central Grocery Muffalattas for lunch..............

I bought 2 quarts of their Olive Salad so I can make them @ home...........

We had a wonderful time but it was Hot & Humid so we'll wait till it cools before going back for more of that great food @ Ye Ole College Inn! :)

Now, let me congratulate my son-in-law Randy Hogin for winning the popular vote and being elected to County Commissioner 12th District of Dickson County Tennessee on Thursday!
Good job Commissioner Hogin !!

Here @ home on the farm, my hard work keeps paying off too! This is my Glory Bower which has it's first bloom....

It will have to be moved in the fall though as it grows huge and will need more room!

And..........my Hollyhocks are looking prettier everyday.............

The one about to bloom on the right looks like it will be red..........

The Mystery Platter "

In my last post I told you about ordering a 15' Oval Platter to match my China and receiving a round one that did not match. I sent an e-mail to the seller through EBay and gave her 72 hours to respond. She did not. After I did my blog post , I sent another e-mail directly to her which she responded to immediately. She wanted a picture of the platter I received so I sent her one. She then claimed that the platter I received, was never in her inventory and was not sent from her!
So now I'm thinking I have brain fog and have ordered this platter from someone else. I check my EBay orders and NO, she was the only platter I bid on! I also told her I remembered seeing P& G on the return label. Hubby in cleaning up had burned the box by mistake! She in the beginning claimed an assistant had mailed it on the 11th . So we argued back and forth through e-mails for awhile. Then I said; FORGET IT, I'll put it in the display shelf. I went on EBay and put a bid on another platter like the one I should have gotten. So yesterday here comes a Priority Mail package containing the correct platter! Mailed on the 11th ! It too had a P&G Antiques label on it! I e-mailed her explaining that I'm really confused now!! So it is a mystery where the first platter came from ,with a P&G label, that contained a platter that was NEVER in P&G inventory! What is your theory? I have mine! The right platter is in the China Cabinet!

Today we are taking the day off and heading to the French Quarter in the Big Easy !!

November 10 th my Great-Gran Amy turned ONE Year Old! Yes Sir , That's My Baby !!!!

" A Stroll Through The French Quarter"

First let me say in response to those who have
inquired, my knee is much, much better! I have
been taking Osteo Bi-Flex twice a day and it works!
Thank goodness for that as I had to walk a mile
from where I parked to get to the Master Classes.
Hubby was going to drive me due to bad weather
reports but the sun came out, so I drove down myself.
It being Friday and the festival going on, the place was
really crowded and parking was scarce. For those who
have been to the French Quarter, you have probably
walked this same route. I parked in the lot behind the
French Market nearly to Esplanade. I then walked down
Decatur past all the wonderful shops till I reached the corner
of Decatur and St. Ann in front of Cafe Du Monde. I then
crossed Decatur to walk down St. Ann toward Jackson Square.
This Mime was standing at the entrance to St. Ann Street facing
Decatur. It amazes me how they can stand for hours without so
much as a twitch! I think he is a space man?





Walking down St. Ann, the Artist line the fence that
surrounds Jackson Square Park. It was trying to rain
so I didn't get as many pictures as I'd like to have.








As you turn left into the Square, you see all the Fortune
Tellers selling their talent.

Then you are facing the front of St. Ann's Cathedral

Standing in front of St. Ann's in the square,

this trumpet player was wonderful! I stood

and listened to Amazing Grace then he played

When The Saints Go Marching In.

Past the trumpet player I took a right to walk down

Pirate's Alley, past Faulkner House Books. During his

lifetime, William Faulkner kept an apartment over

this bookstore to which he would come to write.

At the end of Pirate's Alley, I crossed Chartres, continued

one block down St. Ann to Royal Street and turned left.One

block down Royal this Jazz Band had people dancing in the

street! I felt like it myself but knew better than to try! I

actually took this picture on the walk back and only the Sax

player was playing.

Now this is the right way to tour The French Quarter!

Only in the French Quarter do people hold conversations

in the middle of the street!

By this time I'm hungry and stop for lunch at my favorite

French Quarter Restaurant, The Court of Two Sisters !

The entrance to the restaurant is gorgeous!

When I came out, this Mime was in front. The

little girl had eased up to him to see if he was

a statue and he grabbed her!

I walked two more blocks to Historic New

Orleans Collection, the Museum where the

Master Classes were held. Of course I retraced

this same path later. About two miles round trip!

Not bad for a woman with a bad knee, huh?

I hope you have enjoyed your stroll through a small

part of the French Quarter with me!

I am leaving for Natchez tomorrow morning to

carry out the plan from last weeks postponement!

I do not know if I will be in touch or not, but you

will see and hear plenty this weekend!!!
