Book-A-Holic 12 Step ?

The first step to getting help is to admit YOU have a problem, I'm no longer in denial. Hi, my name is Carol and I'm a book-a-holic! My TBR Stack was bordering on dangerous so I said to myself; "do something before it's too late"! I searched in vain for a 12 Step program so I said; to myself, "if you can't beat em, join em"!

I'm currently reading 2 non-fiction books. I usually have a fiction and a non-fiction going but not this time. This is " Nine Lives" by Dan Baum. Dan was sent to New Orleans by New Yorker Magazine after Katrina to cover the aftermath. He moved to New Orleans and became involved in the lives of Nine people whom fascinated him. The protagonist is, New Orleans herself.

The other book is " Woodswoman " by Anne LaBastille. This is the first in a series of books about her life in the Adirondack north woods where she built her own cabin in the wilderness. Talk about spreading it out! From the North woods to New Orleans...............

To eliminate the fear of hearing a loud crash and running for cover here at The Porch, I decided to do some rearranging yesterday. First, I moved all these books from the selves in the porch room to a bookcase in the hall to clear up some room. Nine of these are also TBR books....

I didn't take a before picture but here's the after pics..........4 shelves of TBR

These are the Paperbacks you see turned sideways on top self............

These 9 are sitting on the top self next to the TBR bookcase! 107 books in the stack and more on the way!! NOW.........do I have a problem in your opinion?? BA where are you??

Enough about my book disease! Yesterday morning I was in here moving books when all the dogkids came flying in here barking and going berserk. This usually means a STRANGER is around so they come get me to SEE ! I went to look out back and heard Hubby yelling my name.
He wanted me to see this Grass Carp he caught out of the pond. Last summer we put 10 grass Carp in there to control grasses that were spreading. They were about 6 inches long. In 1 year they have grown to Monsters. You can't eat them so we want to get them out. This is the second one he's caught. 8 to go!

Look what he weighed after one year! 13 pounds 14 ounces..........

It has rained everyday since Saturday. We have 5 inches so far with a 70% chance everyday this week. We need the rain so I'm really not complaining the pond is still way down . The Sun did come out late yesterday .........

I thought it looked so pretty on the pond.........

I LOVE all the reflection off the trees...........I got some great Sunset pictures later that I will post some other time.

I hope everyone is having a good week. I'm trying to get a lot done by Saturday( my laziness has caught up) and it is over whelming me! I love all the comments and have tried to answer back but it will be hard this week to get around to your blogs, I will try though so don't give up on seeing me ??

Hello, my name is Jane and I'm a Bookaholic! ;-))))

I read rather fast and I absolutely panic when I'm halfway thru my latest read. That's when I rush off to Amazon and download at least 2-3 books on my Kindle, TBR!

Love your piles of books! I'm sure reading is one of the better addictions you can have. :O)

Good luck with that addiction, Carol. I'm afraid there is no cure.

Carol,
Um....do you ever sell or trade your books? Your gonna have to..or else start lining the walls with them..haha.

Your pond sure is pretty! I bet it is just lovely in the fall when all the colors are changing!!

Have a Blessed Day!

Interesting about the grass carp. I remember some shallow lakes in Texas stocked them for same reasons, to reduce some vegetation. The devils did a good job but also consumed the bait fish and the game fish. The dilemma became how to get rid of them without damaging the remaining game fish.

Isn't it strange some "solutions" like Kudza, become the major problem!!!

OK, I feel a bit better about my bookaholism! I think I'm approaching 50 on my TBR pile (also on shelves now), but it's still out of control! Good luck with yours!

Yup, you are a book a holic. But that's not a bad thing!

Good day Sister Virgo. Sometimes we just have to embrace our addictions and run with them, don't we?

It looks like a very good read so enjoy your addiction as you enjoy your day!!!

I also have a much too large TBR collection. Not only that, I have far too many patterns and yarn for To Be Knitted. There just isn't enough time in the day. I'm staying away from the knit shop and the bookstore for a while.

I am right there with you!

Not just books though...blogs, books, newspapers, wikipedia, emails, the backs of cereal boxes. You name it I will read it.

It's a life long addiction that I've yet to break.

Well, my friend, I have that book disease, as well. (((sigh)))

That carp is a BEAUTy!!!

Frankly, Carol, I worry about people who don't have a book addiction, don't you? My stack is so high and on the floor next to a bookcase in my bedroom. My theory is if I see them I will read them. The stack does not decrease. Someone, I repeat someone keeps adding to my stack.

Oh gosh, I'm a charter member! I'm giving away books like mad yet they still seem to breed in the night. Our little community center has started a lending library, on honor system, and that's helping me rid myself of some of the books.
Trouble is...I get rid of books and then, later on...much later on...I go looking for it because I want to re-read but it's gone.

As usual, so much to comment on from you post. Love the pictures and no, according to my bookshelves, you are much too organized. Read on!

Grass carp - amazing creatures. Good thing they make them sterile.

Well, I have the same problem Carol - I always struggle with bookshelf space and discovered with my move that you can get more books on the shelf when you put them sideways, like you do!
I see green of envy about your pond! But then, I wouldn't want the work that it brings:)

You may be a Book-aholic---and I have a friend who is a quilt/stitching-aholic.. She has more fabric and stitching/quilt supplies than I've ever seen in my life. AND--she never completes much of anything. She says what's important is the BUYING.... Yipes!!!!

Enjoy your books, Carol, and take time to READ. I don't do enough of it. SO--you can do it for me also.

Those Carps obviously are enjoying the grass along the pond... ha

Have a great day.
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Carol; I think one can not have enough books. I am book crazy! Love to read and that started very early in my live...around 65 years ago!
this is really a monster fish a pity it is not edible. The pond looks enchanting with the reflection of trees and sky. Your bookshelfs look neat and tidy, mine need an overhaul from time to time to get rid of some books which have outlived their welcome!
I understand that one has not always time to make the rounds to the blogs. I hope you are very well and happy reading.T.

Ha! As others have already said, there is no cure, so you might as well just give in, and keep on being a bookaholic!

Love the Woodswoman books. Have 3 of them here. Read them several years ago and am hoping she'll have a new one out soon. I am mainly a non-fiction addict, but also love poetry and occassionally a good fiction. Funny, cause I have a bunch of fiction writing author friends.

Pictures are beautiful! We just put grass carp in the pond this spring, to clear out some of the algea forming, and they have done a great job. I had no idea they get that large!

Have a great rest of the week. Chore time for me.,

Huggies.

Wow! That's a lot of books. I have quite a few myself but I think you have more. Love the pond photos. Very pretty.

I wish I could read on car trips!

Once I took a writing class and the instructor said his best advice was AIC (ass in chair.) Looks like you need a couple of weeks of AIC to knock off part of that stack!

I'm with Vicki, Carol ... I don't think there is a cure, although, IMO, it's not a bad vice. My TBR pile is so huge that my husband says if it ever fell over I'd be smothered in books (not a bad way to go), but with several rainy days predicted here I'm preparing to do some rearranging.

I have a book addiction too. Hubby bought me a Kindle to cut down on cost and clutter. I still buy the odd book...let's be reasonable here.

Can we really have too many books? I thought the problem was not enough bookcases!

I have totally given up on taming my book addiction! There's simply no twelve step program that can ever help me! Giving up chocolate is easier!

Think Kindle. Then you can carry 200 books in the palm of your hand.
I let the library buy and store my books for me. Good luck.

Bookaholic - All you can do now is to continue with your addiction since there is no cure yet. Wish I was sitting at home with this rain and reading a good book. We have had quite a bit of rain too - but I love rain and thunderstorms.

The pond is gorgeous with the reflection of the trees. Lovely.

Have a good day Carol.

I wish you the best with your addiction, somehow I think you will succumb to it's clutch.
We've had tons of rain here, these past three days, and more on the way. I noticed the neighbors pond is also out of it's banks, you can't tell where the lawn ends, and the pond begins.
Hope your having a productive week !
