Henry Wadsworth.....The Blue Heron

Yesterday I introduced you to the three house mates here at Swiftwater.Today I want you to meet Henry Wadsworth, the resident Blue Heron. He has been around the farm for about four years. He stays year round and knows his name. Hubby fishes for him most days and he comes as soon as he's called. He is a real comical character. If the fish Hubby catches for him is too big, Henry will throw it back in the pond!
He loved to hang out on the pier but recently as you can see below we added a cover to the pier.
After seeing a picture my friend Vicki Lane in the western NC mountains posted of her covered pier, we imitated her! You know imitation is said to be the greatest form of flattery. We plan to plant Wisteria to run up the lattice work panels. Hubby ran electricity underground to it and we are putting up an outdoor ceiling fan!

Hey, Carol -- Very nice! A fan sounds like a great ides -- unfortunately our little 'pond house' (as we call it) is too far away from an electrical source. And I really envy you the resident heron! We get an occasional passer-by but that's all.

How lucky you are to have a heron take up residence on your farm! They are fascinating birds. Henry sounds like he is quite the connoisseur.

Swiftwater is a beautiful name for your home.

Oh, he is a long fellow, isn't he? How delightful to have him around. I love the pond house. Seems so relaxing and inviting.

the blue heron looks so elegant! it will look so romantic once you have the wisteria running up the panels - I have wisteria in my backyard. Happy Valentine's day!

Hi Carol! There are quite a lot of blue herons here too. Last week a woman was attacked by one of them, when she tried to chase him away, for he was fishing in her pond. I bet your heron is a lot friendlier. Have a great weekend.

So funny, it reminds me of a heron on the beach. Some fisher men were out in the ocean, well, fishing of course. Their fishing gear was on the beach by him. He stood patiently waiting for them to return with some fish. It was so funny.

I will have to revisit since I am from Memphis TN and practically a neighbor...

Beautiful! We have a couple that visit our pond on occasion. Their beauty and size really makes you stop and stare- you just can't help yourself!

We have a Wildlife Sanctuary just down the road (yes, amidst a busy suburban area) and it boast the Blue Heron. I wish I had a resident heron like you do!

how delightful to have herons close by! Where i live- i get lots of birds instead making their nestings all around my exterior of the building and garden. But that's nice too.. one of the joys in life..

Henry seems to have quite a life!

I love the idea of a covered pier. A perfect spot to sit and enjoy the water.

Oh, Henry is too cute, Carol. I love Blue Herons. If he'd like to vacation a little, send him on down to my island. He probably has some relatives living here.
Glad you got my books and hope you'll enjoy them.
