" Way Down Yonder In Bayou Country "

There is a lot going on this coming weekend Way Down Yonder In The Bayou Country of Louisiana........Cajun Country that is.............See the little red line on this map that runs North between Lafayette and the word Cajun? Hubby and I will be cruising that road Saturday!!

I had plans to go to the huge Louisiana Book Festival in Baton Rouge this weekend but things changed! I was going to hang out with my author friends Angie Ledbetter, Kat Magendie, Kerry Madden, Rick Bragg, and Chris Tulsa. I would also get to meet other authors I read including; Sonny Brewer, Anne Butler, Ernest J. Gaines,Tim Gautreaux,Wally Lamb and Sarah Langan.
These are just a smidgen of the authors who will be there! BUT............

Recently Marguerite @ Cajun Delights Blog (click to read it)
posted about a little town just North of Lafayette that she went Antique shopping in. Grand Coteau, La. I looked this place up on the Net and saw that there is going to be a 7 mile Yard
Sale this coming Saturday from Grand Coteau to Arnaudville !! I was telling Hubby about it and he said; " I would love to go to that !! So NO Bookfest for me this weekend ! :(
We are taking a little getaway instead......... We won't be staying on this Houseboat ( maybe another trip) :)

We'll be spending Friday night in a hotel in................

We will get up early and hit the road looking for Antique Shops and Yard Sale treasure....
There are some other stops we hope to make along the way to and from Cajun Country...........They are also having a Cajun Festival in the streets of downtown Lafayette all weekend !

I can spend time here for sure!

This is the outside of store...........

I love places like this.........

Gotta check out some Louisiana Pottery................

Get a cup of that strong Louisiana coffee to keep me going...........

Browse among the moss covered Live Oaks............

Look at this place in Grand Coteau............

This cemetery is also in Grand Coteau..................I'm definitely going here with my camera!

LAWD......I wonder what's in this here Gatorville Shop ?

Another good place to browse..................

Wouldn't mind seeing a few of the fellows.................

LORD HAVE MERCY ! I Don't want to run into this Hog Eating Beast ! Can you believe this Gator has a whole Wild Boar in his mouth ???????

However......... God is good and all is not lost where my bookfest is concerned! I will be having
lunch with Rick Bragg and Sonny Brewer on Thursday @ Main Street Books, my local Indie bookstore and Kerry Madden and I are trying to work out a lunch date Friday as she comes through Hattiesburg on her way to Baton Rouge for the fest!! I'm just a blessed woman! Yes! I am! :)

You have a grand weekend all carved out. Sounds like good food and great treasures to hunt for. Just stay away from Big Daddy Gator, chomp-chomp! I love the mossy trees, we don't get that around here.

Enjoy your trip!

You sure are blessed! Sounds like a weekend chock full of fun. I also wanted to tell you that we came through Hattisburgh Friday afternoon when the winds kicked up and it nearly blew us off the road several times. On the way home Monday, it was raining (almost all the way home.) So, I am grateful to be back home. We had a wonderful time with family.

Ooo all those little shops are making me drool with envy. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

The misty graveyard looks especially wonderful to me.

...ooooohhhh...love those misty graveyard shots. They are gorgeous, but lordy...that alligator is darn scary carrying around the wild boar!

Looks like you will have loads of fun. I think we (my hubby and myself) will have to get away a bit more before everything is covered in snow. We were thinking of taking Hunter to the underwater world at Mall of America on Tue. I read a whole book today. EAT CAKE...then I baked a cake...lol
HAVE FUN

If you happen to find a rather large suitcase, that doesn't look familiar, and it's quite heavy...please don't forget to take it along! Put it in a comfortable spot, and open the zipper a little. Put in a little bottle of water, and maybe a cookie or two. Thank you very much.

Wow Carol, for a minute I thought that I was on my blog!! lol That's some itinerary, cher! It all sounds like a lot of fun. And don't forget about Downtown Alive, on Fri. night, and the Rice Festival, in Crowley, on Fri.& Sat. and the Blackpot Festival, at Acadian Village, on Fri. & Sat. Lassiez les bon temps rouler!

Sounds like your in for a really great time. Love all the photographs everywhere looks so full of character....don't think I'd like to meet that big gator on the road though lol

Decisions, Decisions. Isn't life tough? Do I visit and discuss books and writing - or shop for antiques and eat well. Hmmmm.

Tough one.

Your getaway sounds like our little vacstion to an area fishing camp rather than more ambitious NORTHWEST driving tour from which we would still be recoveing.

I know you took those cemetery pictures for me, my favorite penchant. I hope I have the stamina to make Harrison AR Maplewood Cemetery this year at the peak leaf color season.

Wahhhhhhhh! We'll miss seeing you at the Book Fest and knowing you're right down the road...but I hope your trip is great! At the Sorrento Cajun Village eatery, DO get the beignets. A friend owns the pottery shop there and there are wonderful items to browse. There's also a great little soap/scent shop there to check out.

Neat trip you have planned. Busy, busy. I really liked that houseboat--that I could do for a nice lazy get away. Have fun and find bargains.

OMG, that bookfest sounds like heaven, but then, so does the 7 mile garage sale! You're going to have so much fun!!

Kathryn Magendie said...

OH SOB! I can't believe you aren't coming - wah! You aren't that far- just come on anyway *laughing*

I've been to that little cajun village - and seen the HA_UGE gators flopped in the water....

Will you be driving a trailer truck to the event?

Oh, I do love Rick Bragg! I'm glad you'll see him. Tell him you know a maniac in NC who is available for breakfast, lunch, or dinner whenever he's in the area. Hubby has enjoyed his books, also.

Please tell me that last picture is from a science fiction movie. Holy moly!

Oh, sounds like SO much fun!!! You're lucky you have a hubby that enjoys doing that kind of stuff!

Sounds like you have a lot of great things coming up! Love the pits...except that gator place. Yikes :)!

Well, I guess going antiquing and going to yard sales is the next best thing to going to a Book Fair. Have fun!

I'm came across your site in Nezzy's blog...the Louisiana story caught my eye - I have family living near Lafayette -- we are always looking for things to do there, love your pictures.. And all the shops I had no idea! You have a wonderful time - I'm anxious to read about it. From rainy cold and maybe snow tonight Minnesota
