" Mississippi Shines in New Orleans"

What a beautiful day we had for our trip to New Orleans! Sunny and 70 degrees ! I did a little photo shooting around The Garden District which I plan to post later. Today's post is all Kathryn!

What a precious, beautiful young woman! Hubby thought she was so much like our Baby Girl
Melanie, in looks, size and personality! She is really humorous! Every ounce of one hundred pounds( probably wears a zero or less). Talk about petite, I felt like a size 14 Amazon!
Hubby rarely smiles for a photo, but he was loving this, even though he's not grinning!

WOW! She was awesome in her reading and her questions segment! I learned a lot of information that is going to make it easy for me to interview her. Some, I can't wait to tell you! Her Grandfather Stockett,
who is 98 years old, was Eudora Weltys' next door neighbor. She has a wonderful story about the two of them I will have her share in the interview!

She drew a great turnout for the reading and most had already read the book! The Bookshop
served wine, soft drinks, bottled water, cheese and crackers and.................chocolate dipped strawberries!

" The Help" has only been released to the public for three weeks, it is already being translated in thirteen different languages!! Didn't I tell you this book was something real Special !!!
The translator in Italy called her to say she is having trouble with "y'all"!
Australia has declared it: " The Read of the Year "!
Do you hear OPRAH calling ?? I Do!

Kathryn honey..........take good care of that wrist as you are in danger of getting carpel tunnel in it before the second printing!

We had a wonderful time........
I want to thank my local bookseller Diane Shepherd @ Main Street Books in Hattiesburg
for her generosity in giving me her Advanced Reader Copy of "The Help" to read while I waited for the book to arrive at her store. I also got it signed and I might just give it away after the interview!
So........being that I carried my two copies with me to Garden District Books, I showed my gratitude for their support of Kathryn by shopping in their wonderful bookstore!
Trust me they came out much better than had I just purchased Kathryn's book !

Craig....it was a wonderful experiance. Do you read the book,
you will not regret it!

PAUL & SANDI..........
I love Charleston myself, but this post is about New Orleans which in spite of the bad publicity it gets,
is a beautiful, magical, wonderful place which has a feel of its own like no other place I've been!
We were in New Orleans, Kathryn was in New Orleans and I fail to see why Paul brought Charleston into the mix!

What a wonderful event, Carol! You must have had a great day and it is so fantastic that you met this wonderful young writer! Thanks for sharing. You asked where I haven't been. Well I have never been in the two Americas, in Africa apart from Egypt. I have never been in India and China and many other Moslim countries.So...there's a lot to see still.

Sounds you had a great time - and you're seriously tempting me to buy her book (which would be an anomaly -I seldomly read novel -kind of books) :)

You have definitely peeked my interest about this book! Can't wait to read about her Grandfather's story about Eudora Welty...she is one of my favorites! I've been in such a mood for New Orleans lately. Wonder if it has something to do with your "Porch"?

Ooh, ooh, ooh (jumping up and down and clapping) IT'S ARRIVED!! It's here, my Gary Carden DVD, all the way from the U.S of A, from your door to mine - wheeeeeeee! Thank you Carol, I can't wait for this evening, that I might sit back and enjoy it. Sending you a great big squeezy hug from across the pond.

Carol, "The Help" seems to have hit the shelves to a roaring success, I definitely will order a copy, it's looks like a must-read.

How exciting...your post makes me want to get my hands on a copy right now! Along with Catherine, I want to find out about Eudora Welty; "A Worn Path" is fresh in my mind. Excellent connection Carol, thank you for including us and thank you for the email! <3

What a wonderful way to spend a day! Makes me want to do a book signing in the Olde South, just so I can experience the charm and allure once again. You are so lucky to live down there! (On the bright side, all snow is gone up here)

I like New Orleans, but I lived in Charleston over 30 years. Both cities have their charm. Forgive me I love Cajuns and crawdad and the Mississippi ooze. :-)

I finished the book in two days (make that two nights). And guess what? I looked on the Web site and Kathryn is doing a reading in Asheville. I do hope I can get over there, although we are expecting more company that week.

And can you imagine hearing your grandfather talk about his neighbor...Eudora Welty?

I have recommended this book to all my friends and also to the owner of our local bookstore. I do hope it is a grand success because it truly is wonderful.

Carol, I have a really busy day with taking my mom to visit her sister - my husband and I are sneaking off for a bit of a day out, but I'll catch up with you tomorrow, okay?

I'm adding your Superhero to my band all right?

Gosh, what a great experience for you, Carol!
And I'll say it again...THE HELP is the BEST book I've read in ages! NOW I can see why it's been compared to To Kill a Mockingbird....and what an honor that is for an author, but I'd say Kathryn deserved it.
BY the way.....I love New Orleans. Been there a few times and it IS indeed a magical place.
