" Miss Trixie GoLay "

There's a new inmate in the Chick Prison! Her name is Miss Trixie GoLay ! It will be interesting to see if Queen Vicki and Madame Willow can retain their reign as the rulers in the "pen" :)

Sometimes the older woman's experience reigns supreme over youth and vigor! Miss Trix is already a full fledged laying Hen, she knows the score! Can't wait to find that 1st Egg!

See what I mean? She gets to eat all by herself without interference from her young charges.
We went to a Fish Fry yesterday @ Hubby's cousins and he sent Miss Trix home with us so she could incite an egg laying riot! GoLay Miss Trix! HA!

We had a foggy start to this Labor Day morning!

I love these foggy mornings! So cool and relaxing!

A lot of the flowers and shrubs are showing off in a last hooray like this Gardenia!

Ok Mom, are you through taking pictures cause we're ready to go inside?

Happy Labor Day!!! :)

So, does the new hen rule the roost? Love the photographs. I have a gardenia I have moved inside for the past two winters. Lots of work, but the only way I can have a gardenia.

Can't wait to see who gets to eat the first egg. Enjoy the day!

I want chickens too. Yes, I do. I just have to figure the whole thing out for myself one of these days. You keep inspiring me, Carol, to live with things we love, to meet interesting people, and to enjoy the bounty of nature. It must be a southern thing.

p.s. when is the best time of the year to take a Mississipi river cruise?

Gardenia! I can't imagine growing them outside here. Strictly a greenhouse plant here, and usually covered in mealy worms. Love your hen stories. What is it about chicken that I find absolutely charming? You need to give that hen a good squeeze. It'll help her lay. LOL....no, joking! Do you notice that your hens do the submissive squat around you? That is a sign that they are ready to lay.

Miss Trixie is very lovely... wishing you many omelettes!

My mother always said the old hen rules the roost. Good to finally have pictures to drive the point home. Those dogs are impossibly cute.

Yep, the old biddy will probably jump to the top of the pecking order. And aren't those pups cuties!

I love it! You can always handle one more chicken. Right now we have 30 hens,2 guinneas and a roo in our large pen. I've got a pair of BLRW, 6 roos to kill...with about 5 more to follow and 5 more pullets to put in the big pen...once they get big enough! Chickens are addictive Carol...watch yourself!Hahaha.

Oh and no fog here...though it is overcast and has rained already.

Happy Labor Day back at ya!

Happy Labor Day to you too! Chickens are neat and so is the fog, if you don't have to drive in it. We're having a little bit of rain today and not much sun, but it's nice for a change.

I'm sure that Ms. Trisie will totally rule the pen... She's quite a beauty. Can't wait to see the first egg!!!!!

Your pups are so precious... Can't believe how fast they have grown.

Hope you are having a calm day -and getting some "Carol-time" today!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Carol,

Our morning started with thick fog as well, but then it cleared into a gorgeous day.

I hope Miss Trixie GoLay will show the other girls what to do. Sometimes it takes a few days for them to get acclimated to their new home.

Love the pictures. Looking at your chickens makes me a tiny bit envious, but then I remember all the work I had, when I had chickens, and decide to enjoy your fun with them, and my fun without them. Ha!

Had a glorious Labor Day here, on the river. Wheeee!

Hugs,

Renie

You are out of control with those critter names! LOL!

Love your pictures both of Miss Trixie Golay (who thought up that name?) and the older women in the pen. But the gardenia bush is fantastic. I used to love gardenias and always asked for them for dances and formal occasions. I would keep them under my pillow for a week or more to savor the smell. Your life sounds so fun. Bernie

Hope Trixie GoLay has found her own nest and is laying.

We used to count number of fogs in August as indicative of number of snowstorms in winter.

After the 1000 yr ice Feb. ice/snow storm I don't want to know.

Sometimes the older woman's experience reigns. Does that also go for humans?? Anyway:"Viva Miss Trixie! And the two "Big Boys" also!"
I love the foggy photos!

Miss GoLay is looking fine and I'm sure she'll start laying any day now; who wouldn't, for you.

Our gardenias are also confused.

Love the name! The first foal at Thistle Cove Farm was named Meri Go Lightly; she's still here and one of my favorites.
No eggs, however -smile-.

Just love her name, very clever. It is nice to be the boss.
I too love foggy days, it takes the edge off things, makes the world a gentle place.
Thank you for the puppy fix. They are precious.
