"Hang'n In"

We went under an extreme heat advisory yesterday that will be in effect till Monday! Our humidity is out of site and our heat index is supposed to reach 111 to 113 !!!!

I guess there's more than one way to cool off a baby huh?

After humpteen years of trying to grow Holly Hocks I finally succeeded! I got my first blooms yesterday! I took a few pictures of different blooms around the yard and made a collage.........

I loaned out a few of the books I'd read recently so they were not in the last post. I wanted to add them though because they were really good. This book " New Orleans Legacy" by author Alexandra Ripley was wonderful!
She was the author chosen by Margaret Michell's estate to write "Scarlett", the GWTW sequel.

I am also enjoying Karen White's writing. I read this book " Lost Hours " set in Savannah on a horse farm! It is really good!

Another Karen White book, "The House On Tradd Street". It too was an excellent read and I have the sequel, " The Girl on Legare Street" in my TBR stack . These two are set in Charleston!

I am curently reading this book, " Creeker, A Womans Journey", by author Linda Scott DeRosier. Linda's account of growing up in Appalachia ( Two Mile Creek, Kentucky) is turning out to be a wonderful and revealing read!

This is the TBR stack I'm working from. There are all kinds of books here inclucding a couple of Pulitzer's.

Someone sent me this pic in a e-mail. I thought it was so cute, I wanted to share it! I don't text, I don't know how to text and DO NOT intend to learn! HA!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! STAY COOL AND READ A GOOD BOOK!

I'm so envious of your hollyhocks. I love them and can't quite get them established in my beds. The church sign made me laugh. Hope you can stay cool.

Love the Babe in the watermelon! We are miserably hot here too. Wish I were going to the mountains right now.

That's some brutal heat! Our miserable weather has broken and, oh hallelujah, it's raining just now!

Stay in and read!

Even though our temperatures are down, the humidity is high, and is still downright miserable. My TBR pile is going down, BUT in looking over yours I see mine will grow again.

Hotter than hot, here, too! Your flowers seem to be thriving, though. Just gorgeous and that New Orleans Legacy looks interesting! Stay cool, cher!

I'm so glad you read! I figure that's about the only thing between you and absolutel collapse from being farm woman of the year!

I'm on a crash course to learn about our new home state, Kentucky. I will look for Creeker at the county library.
Your flowers seem to be standing the heat well--that amazes me--I tend to wilt by mid-day.

Congratulations on the gorgeous hollyhocks! Growing up in Colorado, we had tons of them around, I never thought of them as being hard to grow. When I was back in CO earlier this month, the temp reached 113. I hope your heat wave is short lived.

Now that is a stack of books. I have 72 TBR in my Kindle. I know you don't like them but it really makes such a tiny pile. Will check out Creeker. You didn't steer me wrong on Rick Bragg.

And here it's feeling a tad like Autumn; in the 60's with a stiff breeze blowing in some cool. Love the baby in the watermelon...so cute! The church sign has a bit of truth, eh?

Hello there Carol!

I cannot believe how hot it is here. I know if I am hot, everyone else is surely burning up!

Blessings,
Debra

It's hot everywhere it seems. My blood pressure surely doesn't like it so I am staying cool; my plants are dying.

Husband can't take care of everytbing either so I am thankful we have AC and it functions. That is until Saturday night when my entergy company's electric grid for us blue a circuit panel something or other.

We were without power from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. My husband geared up the generator for fans and lights and we made it . House surprisingly stayed about 82 from my setting of 777 (which I'd like lower buyt don't wnat to pay the bill).

Beautiful hollyhocks. Mine aren't going to bloom this year. Shucks! I am reading Carolyn Haines, Touched. I am loving it. Been a while since I sat down with a book so this is a nice change for me. I'm gonna order me another one to start when I finish this today.

Love the Hollyhocks! They always make me think of my childhood; Mother grew tons of them!

Thanks for the book tips. I read "Creeker" sometime ago and really enjoyed it.

BTW...the heat index in Paducah today was 112!
